Lose Weight With Green Tea

It has been no secret that green tea has been reported to have powerful anti-cancer properties and helps to raise essential anti-oxidant levels in the blood that can help ward off heart disease. However, newly found science suggests that green tea extract can help increase burning calories and fat by the body’s own natural metabolic processes.

Previous research had concluded that green tea extract could significantly increase thermogenesis. Thermogenesis is the body heated generated from activities surrounding normal digestive processes such as absorption and metabolization of food. These studies also found that green tea extract increased energy expenditure and fat loss as well, which clued scientists into thinking that green tea in capsule or liquid form may be the most effective means.

A new study performed by Abdul Dulloo at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland exposed fatty acids to either caffeine or greet tea extracts containing a small amount of caffeine. While the caffeine alone did little, the green tea and caffeine combination increased thermogenesis by up to 77%. When green tea was paired with ephedrine, the results were even higher.

In another study that was reported on in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, significant increases in energy expenditure were seen after ingesting green tea extract. The study also showed that there was a connection between green tea extract and elevated levels of fat oxidation in the body. While these properties were originally contributed to the caffeine that is present in green tea, researchers found that these effects surpassed the abilities of caffeine alone.

According to leading dietitian Lynn Moss, M.S., R.D., people wishing to utilize green tea to help them lose weight should drink green tea with meals to replicate the study as much as possible. She also adds that green tea may be an even better choice for people suffering from thyroid problems because it has the potential to accelerate metabolism without overstimulating the adrenal glands, which can also help with weight loss.

  • Drink green tea in the morning to boost metabolism all day.
  • Eat a healthy breakfast.
  • Exercise regularly.
  • Drink twelve ounces of water before each meal to keep hydrated. It will also help you load less onto your plate and feel satisfied longer.
  • Stop eating at 8 pm.
  • Just say “no” to fast food.
